Meet the Yellowfox Interiors Team

We caught up with the talented Interior designers at Yellowfox to find out more about the team, what they are lovin' at the moment, and of course some valuable design tips and flooring picks for those about to embark on their own design journey.

Let's meet the Design team

Yellowfox Tauranga is led by Design Manager Sophia Cole, who has been part of the Yellowfox business since 2014 when she joined the Auckland team. Sophia and her young family moved down to the beautiful BOP in 2022, and she looks after both the Tauranga & Hamilton design studios.

Designer Olivia Ellis, joined Yellowfox in 2017, and Designer Robyn Clark joined in 2020. The team are experienced kitchen & bathroom designers, and pride themselves in doing our own in-house production drawings and 3D renders across a multitude of different projects.

"We love working with builders, developers and architects, but the most joy comes from working directly with our clients, and keeping the process fun and stress-free for them" says Sophia.

With an interior design team there is always differing design styles - we asked each Designer about theirs.

"I prefer a clean, timeless aesthetic and love to introduce a touch of colour and texture into schemes and designs. I do lean more into earthy tones and natural materials, and I love mid-century style design", says Sophia.

"My aesthetic is a transitional style which combines traditional elegance and character with contemporary updates in the form of clean lines and current accessories and textiles. I enjoy bringing texture, pattern and individuality into my design with a focus on quality and timeless style", says Olivia.

"I love a mix contemporary style with vintage and mid-century touches such as wallpaper, lighting and timber cabinetry. I like to include curvature in some of my work and often feature this signature look into cabinetry design to give that extra edge", says Robyn.

Top tips when creating a design scheme:

Start with a simple base and build it up to create layers of softness, texture, and depth. Add in different elements such as metallics, natural stone and your favourite Resene colour.

Choose which aspect(s) of the scheme you want to stand out, and edit back other areas you want to create less volume in the space. Give yourself time and permission to make changes, and trust your gut on the things you really like.

Favourite recent design project

"We have a number of favourite recent projects including a new build in Pukehina on the beachfront, a new build in Omanawa amongst the owner’s big dairy farm, and a mid-century renovation in Welcome Bay. We are lucky to work with some amazing local architects who entrust us to execute their vision!" says Sophia

Top flooring picks at the moment in soft and hard flooring:

Our favourite of all time carpet has to be Bremworth Samurai – it is such a gorgeous loop pile in a versatile range of colours, and looks stunning in every setting.

We recently paired Samurai “Midori” with “Nude” oiled oak engineered flooring from the Creative Flooring range, for a large new build in Mt Maunganui.
